Things evolve each year, especially in the technological field, and MWC is the perfect event to see what we can expect on the short term. At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), there were truly a plethora of announcements. Some of the presented things are good, creating eagerness (i.e. the Samsung Smart Ring), others not so good but announced only for marketing purposes (i.e. the transparent laptop screen). Anyway, some of the most interesting Android devices in my opinion were the wearables and foldables, as it seems these two categories are here to stay. OnePlus Watch 2 and Xiaomi Watch 2, respectively, are the two most promising wearables to be released soon.
OnePlus Watch 2: Raising the bar for wearable efficiency
There were a lot of meticulous efforts undertaken to optimize the OnePlus Watch 2, ensuring seamless integration with Google’s ecosystem while prioritizing battery efficiency. Featuring a durable premium build crafted from stainless steel and sapphire crystal, the OnePlus Watch 2 boasts an impressive battery life of up to 100 hours. Not to mention the fact that it’s powered by Wear OS, so there’s already a lot of apps that will work with it. But again, the most astonishing feature is the battery life, 100 hours is a bit over 4 days and has to be one of the longest battery time ever.
Xiaomi Watch 2: Redefining health monitoring and connectivity
To be honest, I’ve tested a few smartwatches to find one that’s actually accurate in reading health stats. Disappointed to say the least, even Samsung had a lot of error margins when tracking stats (i.e. blood pressure). But Xiaomi Watch 2 promised just that, enhanced health monitoring capabilities and seamless integration with Google Maps for effortless navigation. With advanced sleep and brace monitoring algorithms, Xiaomi aims to empower users to lead healthier lives while offering unparalleled connectivity through GNSS technology. I still remain skeptical on the accuracy of health tracking stats, so it remains to be seen how it’ll behave.
Honor Magic 2: The foldables’ era?
I hate them. I honestly hate foldable devices because in my opinion you have to do an extra action as opposed to simply pulling out your smartphone. I don’t think it’ll stick, though a lot of smart device manufacturers are leaning this way. It’s the case of HONOR unveiling its latest creation, the HONOR Magic V2. Sure, their official unveiling shows impressive design and functionality and the device has potential to be quite good for enhanced gaming experiences. They even mentioned a collaboration with leading developers, such as Gameloft, so it remains to be seen if it’ll catch on.
