You know how old a person is based on how long they’ve been using their Yahoo Mail account. I’m a veteran, I have created my first Yahoo e-mail address in 2000, so I have it for 24 years. Still using it, not because of nostalgia, but because I believe Google is much more aggressive at scanning my emails so I don’t trust Gmail that much. Yahoo is a very small player compared to Google, so in my opinion they don’t have the same eagerness to scan your emails. I might be wrong, who knows. By the way, if you want to see how old your Yahoo Mail account is, just go to your account, click on Preferences and then on the Privacy Dashboard, you’ll see a screen such as the one below with a Member since section:

Anyway, I also use the Yahoo Mail app for Android, and to my surprise today (February 27th, 2024) I couldn’t open my email account using the app. Occasionally, Yahoo will have trouble opening up, but I do not recall it having issues for such a long time as they’ve had today. Because they do have a worldwide problem, the Yahoo Mail app is still down at the time of writing this, both for Android and iOS. I did check to see if it’s a worldwide issue and that’s the case, as they’ve posted a message on the official Yahoo Twitter account that the apps have issues and that those will be solved soon, as their technical team is currently investigating the cause.

What’s strange though is that apparently only the Yahoo Mail mobile apps have problems, as the web app works just fine. In other words, you can check your mail by accessing mail.yahoo.com in your browser and logging in with your account. Ok boomer? In the meantime, if you’re eager to see if the issue was resolved, you can check the Down Detector site and see what other users are still reporting for Yahoo Mail.  As you can see below, issues started around 2pm (CST) and are still ongoing, with most issues occurring for Yahoo Mail app (Android/iOS).

No matter what, I’m still standing by my Yahoo Mail address. They should start sending out badges, for the 20-year mail club. Or at least launch an anniversary version of Yahoo Messenger where I had a lot of my old colleagues and lost contact with them permanently once it went down. Those were the times my friend…
