UPDATE: ChatGPT for Android is now publicly available too, you can install it here – ChatGPT for Android. This official app is free, syncs your history across devices, and brings you the newest model improvements from OpenAI.
Almost no one knew about ChatGPT last year, but things changed with their official release. A lot of future jobs will be lost due to AI automation. With its ability to generate instant answers, provide tailored advice, offer creative inspiration, and aid in professional tasks, ChatGPT has the power to revolutionize the way people interact with AI. Its popularity came in with several money infusions, which helped even more its development. They’re constantly improving it, adding new features, and expanding its reach. ChatGPT grows exponentially and it’s basically sending ripples through time into future lost jobs.
Today they’ve reached another milestone, by officially releasing the ChatGPT app for iOS. A lot of users want to use ChatGPT on the move, and smartphone apps was the next logical step. While the iOS app is already live, OpenAI announced that the Android version is in the works too and will soon be publicly available as well.
Looking at the iOS version we can basically see what features the Android version will have as well. ChatGPT for iOS allows syncing conversation history across devices, ensuring a consistent and uninterrupted user experience. Furthermore, the integration of Whisper, OpenAI’s open-source speech-recognition system, enables voice input, making interactions even more intuitive and effortless. It seems that not all features will be available for free users, as ChatGPT Plus subscribers on iOS will have access to exclusive features and faster response times.
Here are the features that I’m pretty sure ChatGPT for Android will have, based on what the iOS version already boosts:
- Cross-device sync. Every conversation you have with ChatGPT will be available to you on all devices and platforms. So you’ll see on the Web what conversations you have on iOS and Android in the future.
- Speech-recognition. You’ll be able to talk to ChatGPT instead of typing, issuing voice commands. Since ChatGPT for iOS uses Whisper, same engine will most likely power the Android version as well.
- Clean interface. The web version is pretty simple to use, thus ChatGPT for Android will follow the same principle, taking into account how the iOS version looks like.
- Themes. The screenshots for iOS have variations of black and white backgrounds, so this means it has support for themes. Not sure if it will only be a dark mode or also advanced themes.
The rest you’re already used to after using the web app. ChatGPT has a multitude of uses, though right now its main role is assisting you in doing various tasks with:
- Instant answers. Here’s where ChatGPT gains power over search engines. You can obtain accurate information without the hassle of sorting through advertisements or doing multiple search results.
- Personalized advice. With the help of plugins, ChatGPT for Android/iOS is able to give expert guidance on cooking, travel arrangements, or crafting heartfelt messages.
- Creative input. I don’t expect ChatGPT to do everything for me, but I really think it’s useful to stimulate imagination by generating ideas, structuring presentations, or composing the ideal poem.
- Professional expertise. Increase productivity with feedback on ideas, concise note summaries, and technical expertise in various subjects.
- Global knowledgebase. Embark on a journey of discovery, exploring new languages, modern history, and more at your own pace.
ChatGPT for iOS is launching initially only in the United States but in the following weeks it will be available to all other supported countries (i.e. by the Web version). Why do they release ChatGPT for Android/iOS? Simple, to expand their reach. There are a lot more smartphone users than desktop ones so it’s quite understandable.
ChatGPT for Android release date isn’t set yet, they only mentioned that it will be coming to our devices soon – I do expect it to be released no later than July, because that seems the ideal release date. August is already a holiday month, so I’m sure they’ll push it before then. What do you think about ChatGPT for Android release date, any inside news?
