It’s Black Friday! That glorious day of the year when people trample themselves to death for a flat-screen TV with a 50% discount. That’s why I don’t like going to a physical store to buy something with a discount. It’s much safer to simply shop online and get pretty much the same deals but without the hassle of getting out of the house and risk being beaten for a pack of toilet paper on discount.
The other “joy” of Black Friday is that you get bombarded with marketing emails, tweets, Facebook messages and dozens of other pestering notifications. But, throughout all of the noise, it’s a good opportunity to buy something with a real discount if you’re a consumer, or to benefit from this to sell something, say if you’re an Android developer.
For Android devs particularly, Black Friday/Cyber Monday should be a well planned event to promote their apps and games. If your game or app has in-app purchases, that means you’re able to generate Google Play Promo Codes. Using those you could organize a giveaway, a contest or even trade those for a retweet or Facebook like. You get more active players, while they get the feeling they got something that’s worth money, for free.
Google Play in particular helps devs with Black Friday promotions every year by creating lists with apps/games gone free or with a steep discount. This year Google has tons of Black Friday Deals, from premium games at low prices, to discounted movies, music and even Google hardware. I counted more than 150 apps and games with discounted prices, over 90 premium movies for under $10 as well as subscriptions for Google Play Music/Videos.
